Games Workshop Warhammer Underworlds New Starter Set 2023

Warhammer Underworlds has been going on for six years now with the first game released back in 2017. The time has come for a new Starter Set that is introducing new players to the game and offers them the opportunity to engage in what the company has touted as one of its best skirmish games set in the Age of Sigmar universe.

Warhammer Underworlds is all in all the most successful attempt to introduce a Warhammer game to the tabletop hobby, following a fairly robust set of rules that tabletop enthusiasts can explore without going to impossible lengths to remember army compositions, point values, and measuring tape, to say nothing of painting and assembling minis (which is honestly quite fun).

The new Starter Set is a long-overdue upgrade that introduces the veteran Farstrider’s Fighters but also brings forward the Sepulchral Guard warband, a band of undead who overwhelm their opponents in large numbers. They are also one of our favorite Warhammer Underworlds warbands of all time.

A Fresh Start for New Players in Warhammer Underworlds

Both warbands have had their fighter cards updated and will feature a unique Rivals deck. The set will come with all the things you need to start playing a two-player game, including a 52-page playthrough booklet, dice, tokens, and the boards to assemble the battlefield and fight.

A highlight here is that the reworked Rivals decks mean that existing players may want to upgrade their starter decks as well. For those who are a little more advanced, Games Workshop has already announced the Voidcursed Thralls deck, which comes with 32 cards that are available to any Warhammer Underworlds warband. These cards are designed to help bolster pretty much any deck and will come in handy to players who are looking to beef up their decks.

The latest season of the game, Wyrdhollow has also introduced more rule changes and updates to the gameplay, seeking to balance and introduce more exciting opportunities for players to enjoy Warhammer Underworlds. This starter set, argues Games Workshop, is the easiest way to get into the game in 2023.
