The Combat Actions format where familiar faces engage in fierce infantry battles has struck a chord with the community, and Games Workshop is investing copiously into the armies you can choose from. Now, four new Boarding Patrol boxed sets are coming for preorder on March 11, 2023.

More Sets to Join the Boarding Actions Fray

Players will be able to choose from four new Boarding Patrol squads, featuring around 20-odd miniatures each from some of Warhammer 40,000’s best-known and represented factions. Board Patrol: Chaos Daemons will muster a solid squad with 10 Flesh Hounds, 10 Bloodletters, and of course, Karanak, the Hound of Vengeance himself.

They will have the opportunity to face off against Boarding Patrol: Adeptus Mechanicus, the Martian-dwelling offshoots of mankind who have long melded their bodies with machines as a next step in their evolution. You will be in control of the Tech-Priest Dominus and 10 Skitarii Vanguard, along with 5 Sicarian Infiltrators and 3 Kataphron Destroyers.

Boarding Patrol: Death Guard will feature the sons of Mortarion along with Lord of Virulence, 3 Deathshroud Terminators, and 10 Plague Marines for some extra meaty combats. Not least, there is the Boarding Patrol: Genestealer Cults who will bring around the Kelemorph, an Abominant, 10 Acolyte Hybrids and 5 Aberrants.

Games Workshop is also featuring custom dice you may buy to further immerse yourself in the gameplay of your chosen Boarding Patrol. The Boarding Patrol sets are part of the new Boarding Actions game mode.

This is the latest addition to the Warhammer universe from a gameplay point of view, designed to simulate close-quarter combat and limited-space fights, similar to a “boarding” attack whereby one set of infantry units attacks an opponent’s spaceship. The game tries to recreate a setting in which players will fight up close, doing away with some of the usual prejudices in Warhammer games, at least in the 40,000 franchise, that close combats indefinitely put some units at a significant disadvantage.

It’s a good addition and it stays true to the game’s core gameplay found in the bigger skirmishes. Overall, Combat Actions has been hailed by the community as a successful instalment in the Warhammer 40,000 hobby’s ever-evolving gameplay. The latest Boarding Patrol boxes join previously released Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, and more.
