Elizabeth Hargrave’s Wingspan is one of the most beautiful games to date. The game has spawned several expansions since it was released in 2019, including the European Expansion that same year and the Oceania Expansion in 2020. In 2022, the game released Asia, another beautifully themed instalment in the series.

For those of you who have wondered if you should go ahead and purchase this competitive, medium-weight, engine-building and card-driven game published by Stonemaier Games, the answer is – there has not been a better time to do so than right now.

Right now, Wingspan is 60% off on Amazon USA and is available for $38.99, or 40% off its original $65 price. The game, which has been one of the hottest titles over the past year, has been constantly featured on BoardGameGeek, an online repository of all things board gaming.

It has hovered just above the 25th mark on that same website’s long list of games with more than 73,940 votes and an overall rating of 8.1.

A Game That Will Last for as Long as There are Board Games

While you may have your qualms about Wingspan – the game being too abstract or not competitive enough, there is an undeniable charm and pull to the title which has embedded itself as one of the best board games of all time with an almost timeless gameplay that every new expansion just keeps adding onto.

The game’s designer is an actual scientist, and she has other great titles in the works, including the Fox Experiment, which is based on a real scientific experiment about, well, foxes. Hargrave is also working on another title by the name of Mother Trees

As to Wingspan, the game is a solid work of theme, design and robust gameplay which involves an intuitive but thoughtful engine-building. The game allows for solo and multiplayer plays with up to five other people and an average play takes between 40 and 70 minutes.

At the same time, the game is novice-friendly allowing even people who are new to the hobby to enjoy it in full, and a great gateway game into the hobby owing to its amazing artwork and the actual scientific approach that gives this title so much meaning, to begin with.

You may even explore and discover the digitalized versions of Wingspan on GOG, an online shop for video games.

Stoyan entered the hobby over seven years ago and his collection has been growing at a pace his spouse has described as “concerning.” Willing to push the boundaries of the connubial bliss to its extremes, Stoyan is here to bring you the latest updates and developments from the world of board games.
