Publisher Korea Boardgames has confirmed that the company will be releasing “$hark M3,” an overhauled classic board game experience focusing on stock trading and partly inspired by “Acquire.” The new edition was revealed by the company in their July newsletter along with details of what to expect. As the official release puts it, “there is no sharing,” only survival of the fittest.

Money Talks in This Edition of Classic Game “Shark”

The new game will be available at Essen. “Shark” has been one of the most accomplished games on the board gaming market. When it was first introduced in 1987,  the game became an immediate entry into Spiel des Jahres list that same year, and has sold more than 250,000 copies ever since.

The plot will have you play as one of 2-6 financial sharks. You will be buying and selling shares in order to garner a competitive edge in the economy and get ahead in the game. The objective of the game is simple. Be the one with the most money at the end of it to win.

Players will have to buy and sell shares and then roll two dice. Stockbrokers then follow the rolls to see what they must play and where. You will place buildings and try to influence the market to provide yourself with the strongest financial dividends. The new edition will come with brand new artwork by II Taek-oh. A new neutral building rule features in the new edition.

Korea Boardgames has already announced the price of the game, available for €34.99 ($35) at Essen. The event is taking place on Thursday, October 6, 2022, through Sunday, October 9, 2022. It’s hosted at the Messe Essen in Essen, Germany.

For those of you who savor forex and economic games, there are a bunch of excellent titles available. You could also try “Cashflow,” “Payday,” “The Game of Life,” or “Money Begs” as any great financial literacy games, but do avoid “Monopoly.” That is if you want to swim with the big fish.
