Axis & Allies has finally got a new edition – sort of. The Renegade Game Studios contest we wrote about earlier this year saw the community pick Axis & Allies: Guadalcanal as the next chapter in the timeless wargame.

Guadalcanal Is the Latest Theater of War

Guadalcanal was selected as the winner of the second Pick the Battle Vote community vote, which it’s an important way for fans of the franchise to have a meaty say in what edition of the game comes next. Renegade Game Studios was similarly excited at the opportunity to see this scenario getting picked up, but frankly – we feel any of the listed options would have made a great choice.

The new game is heading for retail in 2024, with Renegade Game Studios having already laid the groundwork. In the meantime, though, fans ought to keep their eyes peeled for more community votes that may actually end up picking yet another scenario to make a reality.

Axis and Allies have a streamlined game system that isn’t too conceptually daring or out-of-the-box but successfully recreates the proportions of World War II conflicts, with many individual scenarios already out and Renegade Game Studios continuing to expand the available scenarios.

Players assume the role of military commanders and try to see the Axis powers, represented by Germany, Japan, and Italy, or the Allies represented by the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union, win the war. While Axis & Allies is known for following historic events with accuracy, it is similarly known for letting players win by tactical and strategic superiority.

Brilliant Game System That Is Continuously Polished

The game has been around since the 1980s and has naturally required a number of revisions over the years, but it has seen a strong community built around it. Axis & Allies: Guadalcanal is just the latest theater of war, with many more surely to follow.

There are more than 20 versions of Axis & Allies today, with wargamers from all over the world and across various generations playing this game passionately.
