Steamforged Games has made another successful Kickstarter campaign – their latest Kickstarter project, the follow-up to their highly successful Monster Hunter World: The Board Game has already surpassed the mind-blowing $1,000,000 (as of writing this article) in crowdfunding in just two days since the campaign launched on May 18.
Appropriately named Monster Hunter World Iceborne: The Board Game, this time the players (called Hunters within the Monster Hunter universe) will have to face the mighty beasts of Hoarfrost Reach – a cold and inhospitable landscape resembling a frozen tundra. Each playable Hunter will be unique, each with a different playstyle, which will add different approaches to each quest and campaign the group is on.
Much like its predecessor, Monster Hunter World Iceborne: The Board Game will offer a dynamic combat experience, where per Steamforged Games’ confirmation – “every fight is a boss fight”. Each victory will be hard-earned and rewarding, as it will bring Hunters valuable resources that they can use to craft more powerful weapons and armor, which they can use to slay more powerful monsters. Hunters will also have to carefully balance offense and defense, as each monster will have a different moveset and attacks, so strategy and balancing are absolutely key to achieving victory.
Become Stronger With Each Playthrough – New Challenges Await!
Much like the video game, Monster Hunter World Iceborne: The Board Game offers a campaign-style experience. This means that players will play through multiple sessions, instead of just one playthrough. There are a total of 25 campaign days in the game, so Hunters will have to make strategic choices about which monster to hunt and most importantly – when to hunt it. Note that more campaign days can be added by combining additional sets! If Hunters don’t want to play an entire campaign to face those epic monsters – they can do so right away! Each monster has a “single session arena quest” Hunters can take advantage of, at their own risk.
The Kickstarter campaign for Monster Hunter World Iceborne: The Board Game does not have any monetary stretch goals. This means that all unlocked content is already guaranteed. To receive all the goodies from the Campaign, which include the Absolute Power Monster Expansion, all backers need to do is take the Hunter’s Pledge, which costs about $160. While that may seem like a lot, the guaranteed content definitely makes it worth the investment. Still, for those who find the price too steep – there’s a cheaper alternative in the form of the Core Box Only Pledge, which costs about $81. The Kickstarter campaign concludes on June 1, and the estimated product delivery is set for November 2024.
