- The new Warhammer 40,000 Armageddon box, which launches with the 11th edition, has a retail value of $1137 but will be available for $295
- The box is available while stocks last and represents a steep discount on the real value of everything inside the box
- However, some local communities of newer and more seasoned hobbyists have exhibited tepid interest in the launch set
Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 Armageddon box is now available for preorder, and the immediate thing that people have noticed is the price tag.
With the new edition set to hit worldwide on June 20, 2026, fans already have the opportunity to order the new box pitting the Blood Angels Space Marines Chapter against the fungal Ork Boyz and their fanatical brethren.
John Blanche’s Blood Angels Return – They Ask $295 for the Armageddon Box
Yet, what has stood out to most is the price tag, with the box now fetching $295, a noticeable increase from the $250 asking price for the Leviathan box at the start of 10th edition in June 2023.
The $45 hike is fairly reasonable, given that the box comes chock-full of miniatures, along with resculpts and high-value characters, but the question is – who is it for?
While the rules are a nice touch, they are also available for free online, although the Chapter Approved mission deck and Dominatus Narrative Campaign Deck are a nice touch.
In pure commercial value, you have every reason to go out and buy Armageddon right now, as you will be saving $842 versus the box price. The total contents of the box are estimated at $1137, fairly similar to the Leviathan box, which was sold for $250 but was estimated at $936, or roughly $686.50 in savings.
Games Workshop has vowed that it has plenty of supply in stock, although forewarning that you might end up empty-handed if you hesitate too long because the number of boxes to be sold globally is fixed and mostly distributed among FLGs.
However, there has been a pronounced hesitance in indulging in the usual hobbyist impulse to buy-first-and-justify-the-expense-later. Not even rationalizations such as “I could always resell at a higher price” have motivated Meeples Herald’s local wargaming group of 20-odd people to pool and buy the box.
The key issue has been that most people already have their armies fleshed out or are working on them in a rather more focused way, whereas new players have confessed that they felt a little restrained in what they could pick from the box.
Warhammer 40,000 Armageddon Is Great Value, But Is It Worth It?
The box itself is a treat, featuring the art of the late John Blanche, the man who is largely credited with establishing the Warhammer 40,000 aesthetic as a whole.
The Armageddon Box Set is very likely to sell out, as Warhammer 40,000 is faced with unprecedented popularity, with a TV series in the works, albeit scant details available, and Games Workshop’s sales growing at a steady pace.
However, people who have been around the hobby and who are now mentoring other people are, in a sense, second-guessing the value of the box, which is definitely a great bargain, but as Meeples Herald’s local community asks -is it worth it?
