Space Cowboys is back with another way to enhance your two-player Splendor Duel, as a brand-new expansion for the game will soon be available to remove the foil from.
Confirmed as The Counterfeiters Expansion, this new installment in the iconic series and its gallant skirmish version will introduce more elements, including 4 glassware tokens, 17 Counterfeit cards, and 4 brand-new Royal cards to one of the most popular board games.
New Installment in the Splendor Duel Family
The goal is simple enough – create more paths to victory, increase the complexity, and offer an ever wider set of decisions available to players, with the authors arguing that the new extension will only improve replayability and further challenge Splendor loyalists.
While cleverly predicting your opponent’s strategy has been a staple of the Splendor genre, the new expansion adds a refreshing touch of asymmetry without detracting from the original focus of the core gameplay.
You still need to anticipate, outsmart, deny, and outpace your opponents. And to make things even better, Splendor Duel: Counterfeiters will fit nicely into the base game box, which is a relief for those expansion-averse people out there who do not wish to touch any add-ons because they end up loony-eyed seeing how impossible it is to actually compact the whole gameplay experience in a single box.
Splendor’s Creators Dive into Alternative Games, and Further Expansions
Well, not Space Cowboys, and not Marc André and Bruno Cathala. If you are looking for other interpretations of the Splendor game system, a reskinned and very fun Pokémon-themed version exists, which was developed by Marc André as a standalone project, and published by Space Cowboys and Korea Boardgames.
Splendor: Pokémon exists, and it cheekily invites you to catch them all, using popular Pokémon as cards and Poké Balls as chips. While both André and Cathala have pursued their own individual projects separately, they have come back for Splendor Duel: Counterfeiters.
