Fans of the instant board game classic Risk have something to look forward to, as its publisher Avalon Hill introduced Risk Strike – a fast-paced alternative that offers a brand new way to play. Risk Strike offers all the intensity of the original title, compressed into a dice and card game that can last as little as 20 minutes in total. Additionally, Risk Strike is much easier to set up and get into, so it’s an excellent way for novice players to get to know what the original Risk is all about without having to fully commit.

Each copy of Risk Strike includes the following:

  • 42 Continent Cards
  • 40 Tactics Cards, which include Troops and Battle Actions for the game
  • 6 Colored Domination coins
  • 5 Reference Cards
  • 3 Red Dice
  • 2 Black Dice
  • 1 Rulebook

Keeping the Spirit of the Original at Its Core

Much like the original game, Risk Strike has players competing over the 42 Continent Cards in a non-stop action-packed experience. Battles are played in roughly the same manner as the original, with players rolling six-sided dice for attack and defense in order to determine the outcome. As with the original Risk – higher numbers take the edge. However, Risk Strike introduced new elements to warfare – bombings, sabotages, espionage, surprise deployments, and troop rallying. These additions come in the form of Tactics Cards, and players will have to use them carefully to take the edge in a battle.

A game of Risk Strike is won by scoring Dominion Points. A Dominion Point is scored when all the countries of a single continent are conquered by any one player. Whoever manages to score two Dominion Points is declared the winner. As this is a smaller-scale game than the original, this is expected to happen rather easily, but with all the Tactics Cards involved – that might not always be the case, especially in a 6-player game where the shenanigans can reach extraordinary levels.

Risk Strike is suitable for players aged 10 and up, supports two to five players, and is currently being sold for $21.99. So far, the game is offered by online retailers, but it is expected that it will be filling game shelves in the very near future. As an added bonus to online purchases, the original game and all its other variations are easily found and obtainable for those looking to add them to their board games collection.
