With a name like that, “The Battle of Versailles” evokes the scene of military conflict, but the reality is much more cutthroat. The upcoming game by designers Eloi Pujadas and Ferran Renalias to be published by Salt & Pepper Games recreates one of the most historic battles in the history of… fashion!
Vanquish Fashion Powerhouses in The Battle of Versailles
It’s much more serious than it sounds. This two-player game plays over 30-45 minutes and is for ages 10+. The game follows the historic event known as The Battle of Versailles, a fashion show that took place in 1973 and brought head-to-head some of the best fashion houses and mavericks from the United States against their counterparts in France.
The French haute couture was thought unassailable with Yves Saint Laurent, Hubert de Givenchy, Emanuel Ungaro, and Christian Dior among some of the fashion icons defending the nation’s apparel honor. They were faced off by the US’s finest, including Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass, Anne Klein, and others.
The outcome, as many were stunned to find out, saw the United States win with their 37-minute show compared to the French show that took 2.5 hours. Yet, nothing is predetermined in “The Battle of Versailles” board game as each of the two players will have to steer their own teams towards success.
However, some historic plausibility is maintained with the nature of the gameplay which reflects the American team’s more tailored and laser-focused approach which will see them play fewer actions and cards against the oncoming French fashion juggernaut.
Both players try to control the most famous celebrities in the world and have them represent them at the show, with Americans trying to consolidate their place in the world of fashion while the French want to defend the honor of the Versailles and dispel any doubt that there is one powerhouse in the fashion world’s pecking order.
The upcoming campaign crowdfunding campaign for the game is due to start in May 2023. Salt & Peppers Games will be launching the campaign on Gamefound.
