Ever since Glass Cannon Unplugged confirmed the launch of Apex Legends: The Board Game’s Kickstarter, fans have been buzzing and hyping about how this transition from battle royale to tabletop will look like. So it was no surprise that when the promised launch date of May 17 came along, the campaign gained a lot of attention pretty early. But not even Glass Cannon Unplugged could predict how easily it will reach its pledge goal. As of writing this article, the campaign has amassed $323,982 from backers, easily surpassing the $243,903 pledge goal by $80,079 in less than 24 hours. And those numbers will only grow. Much of this is undoubtedly owing to the fact that Apex Legends is a successful video game blockbuster now being adapted into a board game.
Naturally, this overwhelming success triggered a heartfelt response from the CEO of Glass Cannon Unplugged Jakub Wiśniewski, who was not short on words to express his gratitude to the fans. He also announced that there will be new gameplay modes and features revealed in the very near future, warning readers to “buckle up and enjoy the ride”. In another bit of exciting news, Wiśniewski stated that the community opinion “will matter and may affect the final shape of the game”, urging backers to express how they feel about the game in general, and any new additions or changes.
A True Battle Royale Experience Brought to the Tabletop
Apex Legends: The Board Game is being presented as a highly competitive and tactical team vs. team miniatures game, suitable for 2-4 players. Glass Cannon Unplugged made it their mission to try and recreate the thrills and dynamics of a real Apex Legends battle royale game onto the tabletop. Designed with an original game engine and innovative framework, the game has an extremely thought-out modular gaming system, designed with a strong core and multiple, easily installed attachments. This essentially means that whether you’re a veteran Apex Legends player, or you’ve never heard of Apex Legends – you will find an enjoyable experience inside the box.
As far as gameplay goes, players will find it thrilling and challenging, with a lot of tactical decisions to be made. The game will have players form squads of legendary heroes, each equipped with different game-changing abilities. And while their abilities are powerful – resources are very limited, with players having to use a limited supply of weapons, ammo, and items that are available throughout the map. Players will have to use their strategic thinking and prioritize which items to collect and most importantly – if it’s worth the risk. Those familiar with battle royale games will know that without proper teamwork line of sight or ammo, you’re as good as dead.
Apex Legends: The Board Game also has endless replayability potential, as players can change map layouts at a whim (pre-game of course) by changing building and terrain locations, adding new ones, or removing them entirely – the possibilities are endless! All in all, we can’t wait to see the new surprises that lay ahead and how the game will progress. The Kickstarter campaign ends on June 8 2023, so those interested in the game can back the project until then.
