Magic: The Gathering cards can usually fetch a pretty penny. The rarer a card is, the bigger the askance price can be, and this is precisely what is happening in the case of The One Ring 001/001 card which has been the object of some pretty tidy offers.
One such was tabled by Cassius Marsh Sr., a former NFL outside linebacker who has a business prowess and owns Cash Cards Unlimited, but whose passion for Magic: The Gathering has prompted him to now seek out the rare gem preemptively for the price total of $500,000, and perhaps a few extra perks in.
A previous offer of $150,000 put forward by the former NFL athlete was mostly left unheeded, but fans came to Marsh Sr.’s rescue suggesting that he has to up the ante if he is to really make a true collector part with their 001/001 card. Marsh Sr. originally wanted to fly the person to California and take them around town, partying or whatever tickled their fancy.
Now, though, Marsh Sr. has pulled out the big guns, proposing the eye-watering $500,000 for the card instead. The card is special, and it’s also part of the Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond: The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth set which is forthcoming. Marsh Sr. decided to up his offer after he realized that the original offer was below the target for such cards.
Even though The One Ring 001/001 is to be a newly-released card, it’s going to be exceptionally rare, meaning it won’t be something that people get from their packs with every purchase. Meanwhile, there have been other cards sold for similar prices. The PSA Gem Mint 10 Alpha Black Lotus cards have been able to sell for $500,000 and a copy of Black Lotus signed artist copy sold for $615,000.
These prices may seem exorbitant, and quite frankly, they are. Still, some people, including Marsh Sr. believe that you cannot put a price on your passion. Six figures is a pretty good try nevertheless.
