Mattel, a publishing and toymaking company, is on the lookout for what the company has described as a “Chief Uno Player.” Long story short, Mattel is looking for someone who will get paid $4,444 a week to play Uno four hours a day, four days a week, meeting strangers in New York City. The number 4’s is intentional, as Mattel is celebrating the release of UNO Quatro. The deadline to apply is set for August 10 and the campaign is part of Mattel’s marketing efforts to support the rollout of the new game.

To apply, Uno enthusiasts need visit the official TikTok video. One successful candidate will travel or ideally be located in New York City already in September and become the company’s Chief Uno Player for – you guessed it – four weeks. Although Uno is well-known around the world, the position is only available to US residents who are over the age of 18.

The successful candidate, as noted, will be paid $4,444 a week to play the game. The video is already attracting massive interest online with the TikTok short posted by Mattel receiving thousand of likes and hundreds of posts from people who were obviously interested. A press release was also issued with Mattel VP and global head of games Ray Adler having this to say:

We’re constantly looking to create new ways for fans to engage with UNO – and with the nationwide search for the first-ever Chief UNO Player, we’re bringing in-person gameplay to fans in a way they’ve never experienced before.

The company wants the ideal candidate to have a true love for the UNO brand, be outgoing and easy to talk to, as well as ready to challenge any passer-by. A requirement to be able to work in New York City is also a prerequisite. As Mattel puts it, “what could be better than playing games, meeting new people, and enjoying the outdoors as you get paid?”

Mattel has been coming with clever ways to revitalize its brands, and the recent Uno initiative is definitely among them. The company is hoping to overcome some downturn in sales in April-June, which were $1 billion, or down 12% from a quarter earlier.

The company, though, is expecting bigger revenue windfall from the Barbie movie, starting Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, with a new Barbie Monopoly already on its way.
