Wizards of the Coast has announced a new $100,000 open Magic: The Gathering tournament that will take place at MagicCon: Las Vegas on September 22-242023. The event is designed to reunite and gather fans of the MTG franchise and update players on what’s good and what’s next for the game, mingle with Wizards of the Coast, and generally have a blast revelling in the world of Magic: The Gathering.

The event will be taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The upcoming tournament will be overseen by Wizard of the Coast which has confirmed that the vents would be open for anyone to enter. The latest event is a direct response to fans complaining about not having a big competitive circuit to look forward to directly at the event.

Compete for the Top Price or a Pro Tour Invite in 2024

The tournament itself will run for three days, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with the tournament focusing on the Wilds of Elderaine set. The first day will consist of eight rounds of a sealed deck with a cut, while days two and three will be Wilds of Elderaine drafts. The top eight players will finally make it into the Sunday final draft.

However, players who wish to participate will have to pay an entry fee of $160. The winner will walk away with $20,000 while second place will scoop up $10,000. Players who end up with 36 match points – or a 12-2 score, or a Top 8 finish, will qualify automatically for the Pro Tour of 2024.

This announcement comes at a time when the Magic: The Gathering fandom is agog with the news that The One Ring 001/001 card is now fetching anything between $500,000 and $2 million price, even before it has been released – and providing that anyone draws it from a pack at all.
