MTG Upcoming Sets (2024)

Ravnica Remastered – January 12, 2024

Ravnica Remastered set release in MTG

The next MTG set to get your hands on will be the Ravnica Remastered which is coming early in Q1 2024. The exact set date has been confirmed and you can expect Ravnica to bring you a whole lot of old gold cards. It’s a remastered take on the original, with the Ravnica guilds once again represented strongly in the upcoming release and a clear focus on some of the most iconic cards from the original Ravnica released on October 7, 2005.

If you have been worrying about paying scalpers too much, you can rest assured that the first of MTG upcoming sets is here to make it easy on your purse and let you have a crack at the celebrated House Dimir, Selesnya Conclave, Golgari Swarm, Boros Legion and more.

Murders at Karlov Manor – February 9, 2024

Murders at Karlov Manor MTG set release

After getting your hands on the first reprint for the year, Q1 2024 will also bring you the first new MTG upcoming sets. Called Murders at Karlov Manor, the set is once again drawing inspiration from Ravnica, and it suggests a bit of a murder mystery. Who got the pointy end of the knife, though, is hard to say, although some suggest that the Orzhov or Karlov family are the most likely targets, and justly so.

Wizards of the Coast really like to keep things under tight wraps when it comes to their MTG upcoming sets, and the Murders at Karlov Manor really isn’t any exception. But this time the puzzle is not when the set is released but also who murdered whom and what grand conspiracy there is afoot.

This next MTG set also features Ravnica: Clue Edition, which adds even more mystery to an already enigmatic narrative where innuendo, partial information, and subverted expectations will bring out the sleuth in you.

Universes Beyond MTG Fallout – March 8, 2024

Wizards of the Coast’s Universes Beyond is not only one of the first concrete MTG set release dates we have got, but it’s also one of the most interesting sets. Set in the Fallout universe, the release will feature four Commander decks which will come with all the contraptions of a post-nuclear apocalypse world.

The cool part is that every card in this set has been revealed, including Dogmeat, Ever Loyal, Idolized, Dr. Madison Li, Rex, Cyber-Hound, Caesars, Legion’s Emperor and more. One of the most bizarre MTG upcoming sets, this new release definitely fits in the Universes Beyond narrative for defying expectations.

Outlaws of Thunder Junction – Q2 2024

Outlaws of Thunder Junction will come in the second quarter of the MTG release schedule in 2024. The set is also the 100th to be released by Wizards of the Coast, and it is also inspired by the great frontier of the Wild West.

Magicians seem to have taken their leave from the set, or at least they aren’t featured in the artwork, and replaced with gunslingers and surprisingly – blade-wilders who have defied the humorous adage and brought a knife to a gunfight apparently. The set focuses on Thunder Junction, one of the many planes, where villains from across the multi-verse have come to battle it out one last time.

Modern Horizons 3 – Q2 2024

Modern Horizons 3 MTG set release

Modern Horizons 3 is one of the most anticipated MTG upcoming sets in 2024. Why? Well, have your pick of the litter. There are more planeswalkers to pick from, some older season cards are getting a reprint, and the set will also be featured in MTG Arena, which is the digital and highly successful sibling of the physical card game.

Modern Horizons 3 is also going to be featured in Modern Play. Some of the art that we have seen suggests that Eldrazi and Emrakul are featured in Modern Horizons 3, and there is much to suggest that there may also be MDFCs by Mark Rosewater. Wizards of the Coast is also reportedly exploring the opportunity to use Modal Double-Faced Cards and they are likely to end up a bit more complicated than the double-faced cards we see in Standard legal sets.

Universes Beyond MTG Assassin’s Creed – July 2024

UB MTG Assassin's Creed MTG set

Assassin’s Creed is finally coming to Magic: The Gathering as part of the wacky Universes Beyond series.  As the next MTG set to consider, it’s a fairly small one, even for the Universes Beyond release. Interestingly, Wizards of the Coast is experimenting with a new type of pack called Beyond Boosters, which will focus on just this series, and frankly offer some clarity on what you are buying if it’s nevertheless a bit of a marketing ploy right there.

The Universe Beyond-specific boosters will also not fit in a draft, but they will be pre-cooked for you to explore as part of the Assassin’s Creed universe and possibly in future releases. As to the span of this set, it will feature characters from all Assassin’s Creed games making it a fan favorite for sure.

Bloomburrow – Q3 2024

Bloomburrow MTG release.
Image: Wizards of the Coast

Bloomburrow is a brand-new realm to Magic: The Gathering where anthropomorphized animals will play the key roles. Frogs, rats, and rabbits all come forward as imposing enemies and champions for you to tame and put forward on the battlefield, and it’s also the first time since 2007 that Wizards of the Coast has dabbled into non-human artforms as their main focus of an entire release.

The animals will band together to go on an important quest, it seems into the first of MTG upcoming sets of the Dragonstorm Arc. The release will come with a still unknown number of Commander decks and the company has mostly kept a tight lid on the set. The animals who serve as champions will wield magic and iron weapons, and come from distinct and developed societies.

Duskmourn: House of Horror – Q4 2024

Duskmourn MTG set.

This is one of the spookiest MTG next sets and it fittingly focuses on a haunted mansion which serves as the entire world of the setting. There are no universes, no distant planes, just the old creaky, horror-filled old mansion that instils fear and sends shivers down spines. It definitely draws rather generously from the Haunted House tropes and has a very The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor vibes to it.

Whether this has served as the creative inspiration for lead designer Annie Sardelis is a bit hard to say. This is also the second set of the Dragonstorm Arc. It’s easy to speculate about the exact nature of the set and what’s coming with it next, but we would rather wait for more details about the MTG release schedule before filling in the blanks. Frankly, we are not too keen to go poking in the dark.
