Another three glorious years have passed, with Games Workshop confirming that Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition will launch on June 20, 2026, while pre-orders for the new Armageddon boxed set open on June 6.
With Games Workshop having just announced the Core Rules of the game, available to download for free, a few other details were revealed as well. First, there is the matter of the Armageddon boxed set, which will go on pre-order on June 6, 2026.
Games Workshop Reveals Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition Release Schedule
The new edition itself will become available on June 20, 2026. The release box is one of the most comprehensive such boxed sets Games Workshop has produced, featuring a total of 61 miniatures split between a strike force of Space Marines and a massive Ork horde, clashing in another battle to the death.
Once again, Games Workshop will only offer its Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon boxed set while stocks last, although the company has made efforts to meet surging demand around the time of major releases.
The box also comes with a Core Rules booklet, the Armageddon: Operation Imperator lore book, the Chapter Approved 2026-27 Mission Deck, the Dominatus Narrative Campaign Deck, and Armageddon datasheet cards.
Armageddon Launch Box and New Rules Set the Stage for a New Era
11th Edition marks a pivotal shift in the game, with Games Workshop boldly stepping in a new direction and seeking to minimize dependence on long-range alpha strikes and devastating Turn 1 wipes through a new visibility mechanic that aims to improve battlefield maneuvering and tactical positioning.
The edition also reworks how objectives function, replacing traditional objective markers with terrain features that armies must contest throughout the battle in the hope of securing a foothold and fighting their way to victory.
Games Workshop has also changed the way Cover works, modifying Hit rolls instead of Save rolls, along with a host of other adjustments to the overall flow of battle.
Among those is the way the Fight Phase now works, adding fluidity thanks to a rule that allows units to move through enemy engagement ranges, which have been increased to 2″ instead of 1″ in the new edition. The change removes some of the more awkward edge cases from gameplay and helps ensure that more units are drawn into the fray.
Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition also takes a page from Age of Sigmar’s book, allowing players to choose the target of a charge after rolling the dice, rather than declaring the target beforehand as required in 10th Edition.
There are more changes, of course, some that have already been announced and broken down by Games Workshop, and others that will be discovered by the community as players dive into the new edition.
Warhammer 40,000 Popularity Set to Continue Growing amid Multi-Media Push
The Warhammer 40,000 universe is also set to receive a boost beyond the tabletop. Amazon and Henry Cavill continue to develop a live-action Warhammer 40,000 adaptation, with Cavill serving as both a fan-favorite figurehead and a driving force behind the project. While development remains ongoing, no release date or production timeline has been announced.
In the meantime, fans will get to enjoy the grimdark future of the 41st millennium by plunging themselves headlong into battle on Armageddon, one of the most iconic warzones in Warhammer 40,000 history.
