The year 2023 has been simply one of the best for tabletop adaptations of popular video games. The latest to follow in this trend is Terraria, the 2D game by R-Logic which will get a board game makeover by Paper Fort Games.
The news was revealed on the video game’s official website with R-Logic confirming that the studio is working with Paper Fort Games to make Terraria: The Board Game happen. The physical copy of the game will aspire to recreate the original biome of the game, featuring its unique character progression, base building, and epic combat and ensure that those are present in the tabletop version.
Both long-time fans and novice Terrarians will find the game something worth checking out, the studio argues. They may not be overselling it either. Right now, a Backerkit signup page for the upcoming campaign, which will be launching on Kickstarter, has 11,996 waiting for any new updates about the project.
An Epic Video Game Comes to the Tabletop Medium
Paper Fort Games has not been trying to hide the studio’s excitement either, publishing an official statement:
We are very excited to work with Re-Logic; as an indie design studio ourselves, we have deep respect for what such a small team has achieved, their commitment to making the best game possible and their dedication to the Terraria community. We can’t wait to bring the world of Terraria to the tabletop.
There has been nothing concrete on a release date, however, as there will be a lot of polishing and streamlining of the game to make sure that it does the original video game justice, but also services tabletop fans and the community well.
On the Backerkit page, the creators have outlined much of what to expect in the boardgame, and actions such as Explore, Dig, Fight, Build, Craft, and Upgrade. Terraria has so far, no entries on BoardGameGeek but an early Alpha copy was available at the UK Games Expo held last weekend.
Recently, Apex Legends: The Board Game made waves in the community with a successful crowdfunding campaign that raised more than €628,000 ($670,000) from over 3,677 backers.
