Cyclades is perhaps one of the best city-building civilization games about Ancient Greece and mythology in general. The original was released in 2009 with a bunch of follow-up expansions designed to cater to player bases ever since and notable additions to the base game keeping interested in it very much alive.
Deities of Old Come Clashing Anew in Cyclades: Legendary Edition
Now, Open Sesame Games, the original publisher, and designer duo Bruno Cathala and Ludovic Maublanc are going to delight fans with a brand new take on the game in Cyclades: Legendary Edition. At the time of writing, the campaign has already amassed more than 3,400 followers with the preview tersely stating that the campaign is coming “soon.”
The goal of the new version is a more streamlined, dynamic and fluid gameplay which combines the core games and the expansions and creates a more fulfilling experience that players new and old will appreciate. As to what the core gameplay is going to be about, Cyclades remains true to its original.
Players use a unique bidding system that allows them to advance their civilization and optimize their strategy. Each player is in allegiance with different deities, attempting to win their favor and bring devastation to opponents instead. The Legendary Edition comes with six deities as opposed to the five that were available in the original.
For the mythology buffs amongst you, the designers and publisher have decided to not hold back the names of those deities, with Ares, Poseidon, Zeus, Athena, Apollo and Hera all playable in this new version of the game. Cyclades: Legendary Edition also retains the original modular game board set-up which makes for more variety across the board and brings more rewards to plays.
Players once again can participate in heroic deeds, military conquest, and economic or intellectual developments. Interestingly, the game comes with a classic mode for 3-5 players and a team mode for 4-6 players in which players can play in teams of two, cooperate, and vie to defeat other players.
The designers have also taken a look at the versus battle, making sure that the 2-player experience now feels more rewarding, strategic, and balanced as well. Cyclades retains its heavy rating of 3.67/5.00 according to BoardGameGeek, and the game will be played in 60-90 minutes and is suitable for players 13+.
