Geralt will take on yet another adventure as part of the Unmatched board game series, an original collection of card-driven games where you each take on a playable fighter character from fiction, popular culture, and literature. The latest to join this captivating universe is the world of The Witcher with a particular bend on the video games, Restoration Games informs.

Two Witcher-themed Sets Confirmed for Unmatched

Two sets, called “Steel and Silver” and “Realms Fall” will complement the fast-expanding collection of titles in the system which includes the recently released Unmatched Adventures: Tales to Amaze. In each of those sets, fans will find three playable characters with the White Wolf and Ciri readily available as playable characters naturally.

The rest of the fighters have been left to speculation, but the battle will take place in Kaer Morhen, home of the witchers, and other iconic settings. Restoration Games Justin D. Jacobson welcomed the opportunity to add to the Unmatched series with such an iconic release and said:

“In our ongoing mission to bring the most exciting worlds to the Unmatched line, we went after this license like, well, a witcher on the trail of a fearsome foe. The Witcher brings so much to the game: a rich fantasy setting, unique heroes, and some of the best villains Unmatched has ever seen.”

CD PROJEKT RED Franchise & Lore Designer Cian Maher was similarly excited about the news, adding that it was refreshing to see The Witcher join the Unmatched series. Restoration Games has been actively working to ensure that the sets are authentic to the lore and match fan expectations, as well as depict events accurately, and just with the right amount of innovative twist that the game system has come to be known for.

Authenticity to The Witcher Lore Observed to a T

“Seeing our heroes and villains reimagined so well to fit the Unmatched framework was a pleasure. Players will definitely connect with Restoration’s spin on these beloved Witcher characters when they get their hands on the game,” Maher said. Unmatched is just one of many excellent series to explore with Dice Throne and its most recent Marvel crossover proving a hugely successful system.

The core difference is that Dice Throne relies on dice chucking more than the deck and hand management, but it’s still a fast, competitive, and exciting game. Unfortunately, The Witcher fits better in the somewhat more sombre world of Unmatched than it does the upbeat and cartoonish look of Dice Throne.

If you are on the lookout for more great battle systems that are neither Unmatched nor Dice Throne, you may take a look at Ivion, which has successfully built upon both franchises to create its own unique fighting system.
