Some of the most easily recognizable animated characters, The Smurfs, will get their very own board game from the designers behind tabletop blockbusters such as 7 Wonders and Dead Cell.

The designers are collectively known as Team Kaedama and they have been pushing out some pretty neat games. Those include Antoine Bauza’s 7 Wonders, Théo Rivière and Corentin Lebrat’s Sea Salt & Paper, and not least, Ludovic Maublanc’s Cash ‘N Guns.

Naturally, there are plenty of other worthwhile games you will discover under their names, with Smurfs’ Hidden Village now about to be one of them. Yet, the game will leave nothing to chance, bringing in Dead of Winter co-designer Jonathan Gilmour and Sagrada co-designer Daryl Andrews.

Another big ticket name here is Bobby West, who worked on Alan R. Moon on Aftershock. All in all, The Smurfs may not immediately appeal to every board gamer as a concept, but the team that has been put together to make this game a success is indeed quite lengthy and possibly making it impossible to fail the upcoming game.

The game itself is unlikely to release until next year, and a Kickstarter campaign will be on its way.

The Smurfs Hidden Village Shaping Up as Masterpiece

This title will be developed by Maestro Media, which has secured the franchise rights to produce the tabletop experience, and it may still be subject to change insofar as the game’s title goes. Maestro Media CEO and Founder Javon Frazier had this to say on the occasion of announcing the game:

The Smurfs are one of the most recognizable brands in the world with a long history of licensed products, iconic TV shows, films and more. To be able to work on a project, especially one as beloved as The Smurfs, and bring a new gaming experience to fruition, is an absolute delight.

As to what Smurfs’ Hidden Village will be about, players will have to reconstruct their homes following the vicious attacks of the characters long-standing villain Gargamel who almost wiped out the entire village.

Players will have to find out where missing Smurfs have gone and collect enough resources to rebuild their village while also foiling the plans of the villain and his accomplices who seek to bring even more destruction on The Smurfs.

The Kickstarter campaign for the game is expected to hit in October 2023 and the license has been acquired from IMPS/LAFIG. Smurfs’ Hidden Village will be a game for 1-5 players of ages 7+ and it will play in 25-35 minutes.
