The Quacks of Quedlinburg must be one of the best bag-building board games there is and certainly one of the best family games we have played. Now, this modern classic by Wolfgang Warsch (well, the game was only introduced in 2018) is about to get its Duel version in 2024.

It Takes Two to Fool the Crowds with Fake Medicine

Other popular franchises have undertaken similar attempts, and the result has always been a deeply satisfying and revamped version of the originals. Think Splendor and 7 Wonders Duel, both of which proved worthy successors to the originals, and great 2 player board games in the first place.

The new version will be played in 45 minutes, evidently by 2 players of the age of 10+. The new title will follow the premise of the original where charlatan healers will concoct medical potions promising cures to the masses who will pretty penny to get their hands on the often foul-smelling brews.

The quacks will have to come up with clever and creative ways to dupe poor souls out of their coin, while rising through the guild’s levels and becoming a master one day. The quacks will also draw ingredients from their own bags and use whatever they’ve got to brew potions and advance.

Yet, the quacks will have to watch out because too many snap peas and the concoction might just blow in their faces! Players will also be able to use potions to purchase new ingredients, get patients closer to your market stall, and more.

Players will try to settle for the next round’s card, each receiving different bonuses depending on whether they have lost the bidding. Ultimately the two quacks will try to heal six patients, or the game will wrap up automatically after seven rounds. A great update on the original title, Quacks of Quedlinburg: Duel is definitely worth adding to your collection.

Quacks of Quedlinburg is also one of the most played games at Tabletopia, a platform that offers digital copies of board games. In 2022, the game was the fifth most-played title on the platform, attesting to its exceptionally warm reception with the community.
