A new Marvel-themed game by Fantasy Flight Games is well on its way, with the new cooperative title having a remarkable resemblance with the Eldritch Horror series. Marvel D.A.G.E.R. will bring familiar superheroes together and let them face another potentially world-ending threat.

Coop Fun in the Marvel Universe

Therefore, 1-5 players and their superheroes band together and set out to throw a spanner in the villain’s plans. There will be 20 different Marvel heroes to choose from, with players definitely having a blast picking from their favorite superheroes, whether that is Miles Morales, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Daredevil, The Hulk, Iron Man, or someone different.

Just like the plot of a Marvel movie, the gameplay will take some unraveling, as heroes progress together to try and address a looming threat that they cannot quite pinpoint. Various missions will send heroes on errands to find out more about their opponents. This is done by each hero passing three core missions.

In fact, to pass a mission, a hero will have to do a skill check, which is precisely where the similarity with Eldritch Horror, another of Fantasy Flight Games’ top-performing titles, comes in. Players will have the opportunity to spend tokens and have rerolls to try and do better. Right from the start, Fantasy Flight Games seems to be leaning in heavily on variability, seeking to ensure that there are plenty of choices for people to choose from.

Of course, this is not just a reskinned Eldritch Horror, though. There are some unique game features that are integrated well with the gameplay – or so it seems going through the full publisher details about the upcoming game, where heroes will get to do combo abilities. If you succeed with your combo abilities, you will gain new tokens that will let you pull off even more powerful abilities.

Combo Abilities Can Lead to Even More Benefits

Besides, combo abilities also enable all heroes in your party to access a shared resource that will in turn also lead to new abilities. If this all sounds a little over the place right now, don’t worry – from what we see, Marvel D.A.G.E.R. is a well-designed co-op game set in the familiar universe of the comics.

Just like other Marvel games with solid gameplay, though, we will probably see many installments to the game – both in terms of characters as well as the villains that you get to brave.

As of right now, Fantasy Flight Games has only teased Loki Laufeyson, God of Mischief as the first bad guy to face, but there will certainly be more to follow. In the meantime, the game will be challenging and so, player choices will have a direct bearing on how far you make it and whether you succeed in vanquishing the villain in the end.
