The designers behind 2023’s success story, The White Castle and earlier designs such as The Red Cathedral, have confirmed a new board game, Flatiron, due to be released in 2024 and published by Ludonova.

From the Whistle Castle to 175 Fifth Avenue

Isra C. and Shei S. are teaming up with artist Weberson Santiago to offer 1-2 players the opportunity to participate in the construction of the iconic building designed by Daniel Burnham and Frederick P. Dikelberg.

The Flatiron Building is an iconic triangular construction that soars 22-story-high and is based at 175 Fifth Avenue in New York. Now, the designers want to see you partake in the building of this signature structure, which was originally completed in 1902 and was hailed as an architectural feat of its and modern time.

The game follows under the City Building category, features a solo mode, and uses a modular board. Players will have to develop their companies by adding new cards to a personal board and perform more and better actions on each of the surrounding streets, the game’s entry informs.

Ultimately, the goal is very clear – score more points than your opponents or the automa by ensuring you have the biggest impact on advancing construction work on The Flatiron. The game ends with the placement of the building’s roof.

As to an exact release date, Isra C. has noted that the game will probably be released in 2024, as is the game’s official BoardGameGeek entry.

Clever Game Mechanics and Superb Game Themes

Besides that, there is not much else known about the game. It will be suitable for players 12+, though, and played in 45 minutes. In 2023, the designer duo also published Flowar with Primigenio, an economic title that relies on set collection and hand management played for 1-4 players.

Isra and Shei’s titles are usually mid-weight making them very approachable and still capturing interesting themes that add weight and an immersive experience to what is usually a robust underpinning design.
