Stefan Feld, the designer behind Castles of Burgundy, Hamburg, Bonfire, and frankly so many other worthwhile games in one’s collection, has revealed two more projects due to release in 2024, as per BoardGameGeek entries.
Plunder as a Pirate, Win as the Best Storyteller
Feld continues to publish with Queen Games, and he is going solo on both projects, as is his custom. Nassau, the first of the projects, is a continuation of the City Collection series, but with a different twist. Players assume the roles of pirates who will be in charge of their own ships and sail out to plunder and overtake other ships.
To get into a fighting-ready shape, though, each captain would need a good crew, fearful fighters, ammunition, and canons as the seas pose challenges of great variety – from unwitting trade ships to well-fortified outposts, to actual sea monsters.
The game is played over 4 seasons with two phases in each phase. The first phase is where you prepare to set sail and the second phase focuses on execution. Ultimately, the end goal is to accumulate points, duh – not by reaping the most riches but by telling the best tales of your adventures.
The game is fit for 2-4 players, plays over 90-120 minutes, and is suitable for players 14+. The project is illustrated by Klemens Franz who is known for his work on titles such as Agricola, Orleans, Clans of Caledonia, and Caverna. Franz has more than 369 entries on BoardGameGeek.
Travel in Nepal in Kathmandu
The second title by Feld that may catch your eye is Kathmandu in which you set out to explore the diverse landscape of Nepal. The title is 2-4-player game that plays in 60-75 minutes and fit for players 12+.
The game will have you on a journey to visit Kathmandu, but this will be a perilous undertaking for those who think they can simply reach the city. Rather, you will have to carefully plan as you pick three of your dice and roll them to gain resources and travel around the board.
You will visit temples, trade goods in different cities, and discover new parts of the Nepalese landscape. Efficiency will dictate success and make the difference from falling behind.
Time is of the essence and not everyone will make it to Kathmandu before a treacherous storm hits and makes you lose the game. The title will be illustrated by Markus Erdt, Patricia Limberger, and Lukas Siegmon. Both titles seem to be great euro board games with a touch of adventure.
