Star Wars fans rejoice – game companies Asmodee and Z-Man Games have announced that they will be joining forces together to create “Star Wars: The Clone Wars – A Pandemic System Game”.
As the game’s title suggests, it will be set during the events of the Clone Wars, where up to 5 players will take on the role of legendary Jedi Knights, including the likes of Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Mace Windu, Aayla Secura, and Luminara Unduli. They will be tasked with defending the Galactic Republic from the separatists and their droid armies. The brave Jedi will have to work together across four epic and engaging scenarios in order to reach and defeat the Separatist leaders, consisting of powerful Dark Side force users such as General Grievous, Darth Maul and Count Dooku.
Each Jedi Knight will have unique Force Abilities, making the game very replayable, as there will be new force power combinations each playthrough. It’s all in the hands of the players to determine which are the most effective, and which ones will fit their personal playstyle.
“Star Wars: The Clone Wars – A Pandemic System Game” will be using Z-Man Games’ cooperative Pandemic System’s mechanics, essentially borrowed from their extremely successful 2008 board game – “Pandemic”. This method of game creation is proven to be quite successful, as Z-Man Games have proven in the past.
They have used this framework to create other Pandemic System games from other popular game or book universes, such as: “World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King – A Pandemic System Board Game” and “Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu” to great success. Much like the original Pandemic, this current Star Wars spinoff will combine a constantly-growing tension with big events, which aims to recreate the slow-burn wartime fears that The Clone Wars show was famous for.
Battle the Sith Lords One-On-One in a New Solo Mode
For those who carry Anakin Skywalker’s head-on reckless approach and feel they don’t need a party to defeat the Sith Lords – no problem: the game will offer a Solo Mode. This is a unique take on the Pandemic System, as it was originally created for 2-4 players. Perhaps the iconic one-on-wide lightsaber duels between Jedi and Sith provided the needed push for the inclusion of a solo option – an opportunity too good to pass up.
Star Wars fans will be pleased with the game’s excellent artwork – the cover art, game board and card illustrations all look amazing, but perhaps what they’ll be excited about the most will be the Jedi Knight and Sith Lord high-quality miniatures. “Star Wars: The Clone Wars – A Pandemic System Game” became available for pre-order yesterday in the United States. It can be found exclusively online at Target, at an MSRP of $59.99. The game will launch globally on October 1, becoming available for all U.S. and non-U.S.-based retailers.
