Magic: The Gathering has grown a lot over the past years, featuring sets from the Lord of the Rings and Doctor Who. Now, the game’s lead designer, Mark Rosewater is imagining a potential future set that will feature sentient food.

Rosewater is not saying that Magic will pull the trigger and build the set, but he would be one of the supporters of such an idea. Magic has already dabbled in this particular realm of the experience and specifically through its Unglued MTG set.

The designer was answering fan questions on his Blogatog blog, but the mention of a potential sentient food MTG set triggered a wave of puns. Fans started talking about flavorful and in pie cards that would add to the core gameplay experience.

Another fan suggested that Bananas could be the villain. All things considered, though, MTG is not very likely to go ahead with such a culinary venture on its own. The company could potentially pull it off, but there seems to be a rather tepid reaction to an entire set of sentient food.

If anything, MTG will most likely continue to collaborate with various IPs and franchises, just like it did in its Universes Beyond and Secret Lairs sets, with the company releasing a series of excellent new cards reimagining worlds. Meanwhile, the flurry of excitement around Universes Beyond has quieted down a bit after The One Ring card was found and graded.

The person owning the card has said that they would rather remain anonymous, but they have been offered several seductive seven-figure offers. The One Ring was given a Mint 9 rating by PSA, a grading company. This is also the first MTG card that is worth seven figures, even though the set it is part of was only released on June 232023
