Hachette Boardgames has announced that “Northgard: Uncharted Lands” is now available for pre-order with the original game arriving on August 17. While global releases will be delivered on varying timeline, an early copy of the game will be available to play and see at GenCon, held on August 4-7.
Norse Mythology 4X Northgard Arrives on Time for Summer Carnage
The game, inspired by Norse Mythology, is billed as a streamlined 4X experience with deck-building elements. 4X in board gaming terminology refers to Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate and has been a subgenre of strategy-based computer games before it was conveniently adopted by the hobby.
Today, the industry has been able to bring to realization at least several noteworthy games belonging to the genre, among which “Twilight Imperium,” “Forbidden Stars,” and “Clash of Cultures” to name a few titles.
“Northgard: Uncharted Lands” takes this experience on its head, though, as it seeks to introduce a solution to a painful problem – the duration of such games. Designer Adrian Dinu who created the game expects a game of Northgard to take anything between 45-90 minutes, much below the lengthy benchmark for most of these games.
The game itself will accommodate between 2 and 5 players and uses deck building, dice rolling, tile placement and territory building as some of its core components. Speaking of components, the game will feature 70+ plastic minis, 50+ unique cards, and 7 different clans to swear your allegiance to.
Inspired by the computer game counterpart by the same name, Northgard prides itself to be a fully streamlined experience that is built to cater to a broader range of people while ensuring that you still feel like playing a 4X title. The game comes with simplified deck building mechanic to provide you with more versatility while ensuring the gameplay remains focused.
The game will unfold across seven rounds, but players are free to cut some rounds out and stop the game at any point a consensus has been reached. “Northgard: Uncharted Lands” is presently listed at $89.99 askance price on Amazon.
