“Colossus,” a card-driven solo game developed by the fittingly called Alone Editions Games, has completed its Kickstarter campaign, drawing in €60,590 in pledges from 2,008 backers. The game is designed as a single player adventure that takes 20 minutes to wrap up.
Creating a Solo Card Game Adventure
The goal of the game is simple. Take control of the warrior Netophah and vanquish Colossus Og. No more, no less. The gameplay comes with some unique rules of its own where all cards must be overlapping while also played vertically and upright.
Each played card must then cover exactly two squares, or “medallions” as per the game’s terminology, of a card already in play. You will then compare your medallions with those played by Colossus Og and seek to get him within reach by climbing further the arena you create with the cards.
Once on the top, your goal is simple. Fight Og to the death and win. The game is a Kickstarter exclusive and comes in two sets, one that costs €18, another one worth €35, and adding “The Spirit of Eden,” a separate game that was successfully funded on July 12 and collected €43,571 at the time.
Focusing on Solo Board Games
Alone Editions has crafted a number of minimalistic, portable and beautifully designed board games, among which “The Road,” “Black Hole,” “Dreamers,” “Blood and Bushido,” “Way of the Samurai,” and “LC.” Alone Editions Games has been around for three years, working on a number of games that are set in their distinct worlds and create unique gameplay experience.
The company’s development efforts are focusing on lightweight solo games that have a quick playthrough and provide players with the opportunity to play quickly, while still bestowing a feeling of reward and progress.
