Whovians around the world will be over the moon to learn that Wizards of The Coast are about to release more Doctor Who content very soon, following up on the successful Doctor Who commander deck releases earlier this year. They were very well received by the community, as seen by the comments in their feature episode on the popular Command Zone YouTube channel.

The new product will be from the Secret Lair Drop Series and will bear the name Doctor Who: Regeneration. This time around, the product will be focused on the still ongoing 60th Anniversary specials, which hadn’t aired when the Commander decks were released.

IGN has revealed three of the five mechanically unique cards, designed to specifically fit the Doctor Who theme, which just makes the Commander format that much more interesting.

A Deeper Dive Into the New Reveals

The Fourteenth Doctor is dropping into Doctor Who: Regenerations with a bang, and his effect is truly something to behold. Not only does it encourage playing all the Doctors in the same deck, it gives you synergy. You get to reveal the top 14 cards of your library, then put all the Doctors revealed this way in your graveyard. Now that is a powerful effect for any graveyard deck. But it doesn’t stop there – he gets to enter as a copy of any Doctor card that was put into your graveyard this turn. Imagine the power!

The second revealed card is Yasmin Finney’s incarnation of the enigmatic Rose Noble. On the surface, the 2/3 stat line on a 4-drop card is not impressive at all. But there’s more than meets the eye with Rose, just like in the show. Taking a closer look, you might notice the Ward 2 keyword and her effect is not to be underestimated either – you get to draw a card every time you play a “Doctor” spell (creature or otherwise) or a card that has the “Doctor’s companion” keyword, perfectly synergizing with the Fourteenth Doctor.

Last, but certainly not least, comes The Celestial Toymaker, reimagined as a 2/4 rogue artificer. His dastardly power allows you to look at the top three cards of your library when he attacks, then put them in two separate piles – one face-up and one face-down. Then, the defending player must make a choice which one of them will go to your hand. If you thought that’s powerful – there’s more! At the end of the turn, each opponent loses two lives each time a player is forced to group cards into a pile or make a guess. Note that this can happen more than once per turn.

MTG On Time for the 60th Anniversary of the Franchise

As previously mentioned, the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary specials are still ongoing – they started airing on 25 November and will continue to air until 9 December, so if you want to catch them, they are available on BBC One in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and on Disney+ internationally. That will give you plenty of entertainment until the scheduled Secret Lair Drop date on 11 December. IGN have also announced two more card reveals next week – there’s plenty of timey-wimey to go around!
