The critically acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons publisher Wizards of the Coast appears to have caught up with the idea that fan-made homebrew content might actually be good and is worth investing in. In this latest bit of awesome news, Wizards are expanding the D&D Beyond universe with two brand new additions – Dungeons of Drakkenheim and Grim Hollow: Lairs of Etharis, shortly after receiving praise from fans of the franchise for introducing much-needed fixes to the Monk class.
These titles are the fruits of Australian TTRPG publisher Ghostfire Gaming, who became famous with their extremely successful D&D 5e adventure content, like The Seeker’s Guide to Twisted Taverns supplement, the Sunken Isles adventure, and of course the soon-to-be fully fleshed out fan favorites Dungeons of Drakkenheim and Grim Hollow: Lairs of Etharis. Realizing the enormous potential for success laid bare in front of them, Wizards of the Coast were quick to enter a partnership with Ghostfire Gaming.
Awesome Campaigns Deserve Awesome Trailers
Dungeons of Drakkenheim itself is the fruit of another partnership – that of Ghostfire Gaming with the popular YouTube dungeoneers Dungeon Dudes. The campaign had a highly successful episodic run, gaining a lot of traction in the D&D YouTube space (and beyond). The Dungeons of Drakkenheim’s story is especially suited for fans of cosmic zombie horror, featuring eldritch space storms, volatile cosmic energy, and of course – horribly mutated villagers and undead. It sends serious Lovecraftian horror and Dead Space vibes. The campaign has an awesome trailer on the D&D Beyond YouTube channel which you can find here:
Grim Hollow is set in the grimdark world of Etharis, and it features a myriad of creatures and challenging monsters for players to slay. This campaign is a serious “creature feature” with a heavy emphasis on werewolves, undead, vampires & monstrosities. Horror, but not-so-cosmic. That doesn’t mean the campaign is less challenging, however, on the contrary – it is extremely rich and extensive, with challenges waiting around every corner. Grim Hollow also has its own YouTube trailer. Check it out here:
The Ghostfire Gaming/Dungeon Dudes additions are only the second-ever major third-party additions, but Wizards of the Coast have announced that more third-party content is coming to D&D Beyond, which is awesome for everybody involved. The campaign roster was previously updated with Critical Role and the Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn by Darrington Press. What will be added next? We’ll just have to wait and see.
