Eve Online, the MMO that has been played over decades, focused on incredibly detailed spacefaring and guttingly devastating warfare, is getting adapted into a board game. A project has popped on Kickstarter hosted by Titan Forge Games, a publisher and developer based out of Szczecin, Poland.
The studio has collaborated with CCP Games, the original developers of the Eve Online MMO, which now has its campaign ready and waiting with 682 followers at the time of writing. Eve Online: The Board Game is being adapted as a 4X board game, with the four X’s standing for eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate.
The new project is likely to proceed as a highly-strategical board game, but do not count that the tabletop experience will spawn 20 years of gameplay, as Eve Online has been live over the past two decades, growing its player base and being one of the most ambitious ongoing experiments in video gaming.
Overall, there are not too many details shared with the public as of right now, other than the Kickstarter project being set up and a tempting “soon” next to the date of the launch. We have reached out to Titan Forge Games for more input.
In the meantime, Eve Online adapted into a board game sounds like an exciting idea. 4X games are a delight, and there are many good ones in the pipeline, with Dávid Turczi and Nigel Buckle’s latest gem, Voidfall, on its way.
