The Yu-Gi-Oh franchise has been vibrant over the past years with the trading card game really taking off. What does this mean for the TCG? Well, the new meta is well on its way, with Illusion Monsters now part of Duelist Nexus, the latest booster set for the acclaimed game published by Konami, and just in time for the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship 2023

Illusion Monsters are not your battle-hardened menaces, but they are tricksters who will stay in the battle and continue to disrupt the opponent’s pace of play, forcing them to adapt lest they want to lose. Illusion Monsters are able to soak up damage and do damage, but may not be defeated, nor can they defeat monsters themselves.

Among the cards introduced in the new booster set is a Level 7 monster called Nightmare Magician who comes in with 2500 attack and 2000 defense and has mind control. This way, the Nightmare Magician takes control of one of the opponent’s monsters that it had fought in the same round.

Not only that but the Nightmare Magician will be prompted to destroy a card in the field every time another monster attacks, making him an incredible nuisance for your novice and seasoned Yu-Gi-Oh player alike. Presently, there are only six such monster types featured in the booster set to wit Mirror SwordknightCornfield CoatlKing of Mythical ClawsChimera the King of Phantom Beats, and Big-Wing Beformet, as well as the Nightmare Magician.

Each of these brings a formidable skill set to each battle and forces a noticeable change in the gameplay dynamic. The set is already available to buy on Amazon US with a discount. Meanwhile, Konami continues to fill the franchise with exciting new releases.

Celebrating the franchise’s 25th anniversary, the company has released several booster packs that were originally released in 2002 and 2004, including Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon, Metal Raiders, Spell Ruler, Pharaoh’s Servants, and Invasion of Chaos. These anniversary packs are a great way to relive the joy of the earlier years of the game.
