Cardboard Alchemy and Lucky Duck Games are sweeping us all from our feet once again, publishing a new and exciting game called Andromeda’s Edge. The newly launched tabletop masterpiece is quick to win the hearts of many with the crowdfunding campaign having amassed close to $1 million. The game has so far been well-received owing to its basic concept and from what scarce evidence of gameplay there has been. Backers have mostly given it high rates so far, basing this opinion on social media comments, and the game’s profile at BoardGameGeek, a leading media and repository of all things board games.

What Is Andromeda’s Edge and How Will It Play?

The crowdfunding campaign launched in January 2023 and the game has been able to attract massive backing, almost reaching its $1 million funding milestone at the time of writing. Andromeda’s Edge promises to immerse you into the cosmic world of the Andromeda Galaxy where you will be caught in a civilization-building race with up to four other players. The game can be played solo or with up five people ages 14 and older. Players start with one space station each and they must lead their own faction to Andromeda’s Edge, where they must begin the construction of their civilizations.

Collecting resources, climbing up progress tracks and populating planets are only part of what the game has to offer. Andromeda’s Edge will have you racing to become the most powerful space-faring faction in one of the four pillar tracks, which include Science, Industry, Commerce, Civilization and Supremacy, each player forging their own destiny.

Players will do that by launching their space ships from their stations into new destinations, seeking to complete milestones ahead of other players, collecting resources, or engaging in space battles resolved by the roll of the dice. Returning to your stations will help you access a big part of the game where you turn the resources you collect into energy and make no advancements for your civilizations caught in this epic space battle.

The game is not that long either adn takes from anything from 40 to 200 minutes, which is still slightly below the length for similar civilization and space-building games. While calling Andromeda’s Edge a “civilization game” outright may be a little off the mark, we still feel the game is set up for success.

Not least, Andromeda’s Edge seems to be the sci-fi successor of Dwellings of Eldervale, which is the brainchild of Luke Laurie, who has also designed games such as Cryo, The Manhattan Project: Energy Empire, and many others, and is now working as a co-designer on Andromeda’s Edge.

Andromeda’s Edge Price and Gamefound Editions

Andromeda’s Edge comes in Standard and Deluxe editions, both of which are currently at a discount, with the standard one costing $69 from the previous $99 and the deluxe being discounted to $129 from the previous $169. Both editions come with many cool miniatures, tiles and cards and it seems that the component quality is up to par, as it has been with previous titles published by the companies, and products developed by Laurie.

Cardboard Alchemy is not new to the crowdfunding field as it already has several campaigns behind its back and is responsible for the absolutely amazing Flamecraft. We can only hope that they will keep up the good work and wish them good luck.
